The Beloit Sustainable Garden Initiative was stated by Beloit College students with a shared interest in starting a student-run, on-campus garden here at Beloit College. After meeting with staff, professors, food service, and other students, a campus garden was formed called Beloit Urban Garden. We partner with the Sustainability Fellows program over the summer to sponsor a fellow in the garden, and all of our produce is sold to on-campus dining. Student projects that have enriched the garden and skills that students have acquired include project management, garden planning, organic gardening, pest management, mural painting, conflict resolution, resource allocation during construction projects, multi-stakeholder organizational structuring, event planning, and community outreach. This is a project that is, and was, a labor of love by Beloit College students.
