How one bold question leads to exciting new prospects for Sraar van Rens. After the businessman from the Dutch city of Venlo was approached by motorcycle racer Koen Zeelen in 2014, Van Rens took the plunge and became Zeelen's personal sponsor. It wasn't until later that Van Rens – owner of FotoVideoRetail; a wholesale company specialized in video and photography equipment – took the shot to help expose his own brand of Benro to the world. As a new player in the fast-moving world of motorcycle racing, Van Rens was hooked, and in 2016 he decided to start the Benro Racing team. Koen Zeelen turned out great results in their first season in the strongly contested IDM (Internationalen Deutschen Motorradmeisterschaft). In 2018 the team moved into Supersport racing. and that payed dividends, with two third place finishes for Vasco van der Valk in only their first season in the new class. In the second season Benro Racing really started showing its prowess. Australian talent Tom Toparis did not just manage to get the team their first win, but a tally of five podium finishes over the season as well. Considering the nineteen-year-old had to sit out a few races in IDM, an overall fifth place in the championship was quite the achievement. After the success in this domestic championship the team aims to step up their game in 2020. The goal is to race all European rounds of the World championship, the highest level of racing with these 600 cc Supersport-bikes.
