BENTLEY has made sporting lifestyle clothing for ladies and gentlemen since 1962, beginning with our classic golfwear range. Victorian and Edwardian gentry invented sport and leisure clothing. Ladies and gentlemen joined cricket clubs, tennis clubs, rugby clubs, where they enjoyed games from pavilions, dressed in their new "sportswear". The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club; the Lawn Tennis Association; the cricket County Championship was established at Lord's; the first golf Open Championship was held in Scotland, the "Home of Golf"; and the world's first football league and the FA Cup were all established in the period. Fashions have changed. BENTLEY was born, not in Victorian times but in 1960's Swinging London, an era synonymous with fashion. BENTLEY's birth year, 1962, is the year Rod Laver won at Wimbledon; Arnold Palmer won the British Open; Yorkshire won the cricket County Championship; and the British Lions toured South Africa. The decade saw England win the football World Cup and Great Britain win the Rugby League World Cup. BENTLEY garments are all British designed. We only manufacture where expertise and craftsmanship is excellent. Our garments have been made in Britain, in Italy, and more widely when the quality is of the finest standard. Established in London near the old Wembley Stadium, probably the most iconic football stadium in the world, our headquarters were moved in the 1990's to Manchester, Britain's historic textile capital, where our wider fashion group also manufactured garments, and sometimes designed, for other British luxury fashion houses – Burberry, Aquascutum, Gieves & Hawkes etc., and also created luxury British countrywear sold in Harrods, Farlows of Pall Mall and Barneys New York. BENTLEY clothing is not mass-market. We prefer to offer quality garments, with a degree of exclusivity. We hope you too share our ethos.
