Berendina group is one of the leading community development agencies in the non-government sector in Sri Lanka being in operation from 1987. It consists of, Berendina Development Services (Gte) Ltd and Berendina Micro Investments Company LTD. currently it operates in 11 Districts in Sri Lanka, namely Ampara, Anuradhapura, Badulla, Batticaloa, Kandy, Kegalle, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Nuwara Eliya, Trincomalee and Vavuniya, serving well over 100,000 families every year.Berendina Micro Investments Company Limited well known as BMIC, is the first licensed microfinance company under the Microfinance Act No.6 of 2016 of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka established in order to provide Microfinance services to the rural and plantation communities in Sri Lanka. With an outstanding loan portfolio of Rs. 3.1 Billion, BMIC currently has 30 branches in 11 districts with a total clientele well over 75,000.Berendina Development Services (BDS) provides various kind of assistance to the vulnerable and marginalized communities in the form of Housing, Provision of Drinking Water, Sanitation, Health, infrastructure Development and Livelihood support for economically active poor and monthly monetary support for economically inactive poorest people. It also empowers vulnerable communities to enjoy their rights through advocacy and lobbying efforts together with civil society strengthening, capacity building and meaningful participation.BDS also facilitate rural and plantation youth to find productive employment. BDS also facilitates youth job linkage with 300 registered companies. Youth are counselled and encouraged to attend various vocational or professional trainings and also provide with VT scholarships. BDS has also support over 8000 bright students hailed from poverty stricken families to complete their education in G. C. E. (A/L) studies by providing bright students scholarships monthly disbursements.
