"Breeding Poultry Association" which had been established in December 1992, was renamed as "Poultry Meat Producers and Breeders Association" in 1994 after poultry meat industrialists gather under its roof. The members of BESD-BIR supply 91% of the total production of chicken and turkey meat, hatching broiler eggs and day old chicks in Turkey.Until 2006, in addition to egg and meat breeding industrialists, the ones who have poultry slaughterhouse gathered under the roof of the Association. In 2006, with the change in regulations, egg breeding industrialists dropped out and BESD-BIR only extended the memberships of poultry meat producers.BESD-BIR aims to develop the production of poultry meat industry, to create values which will contribute to the companies, to present the industry appropriately and to establish communication between public and industry.29 companies are registered to BESD-BIR. The General Board, consisted by 135 members, elect the Board of Directors and Supervisors, which will work for three years. In addition to the Board of Directors and Supervisors, 5 full time personnel included Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General, Technical Staff and two Administrative Staffs are employed.BESD-BIR organizes International Poultry Meat Congress biyearly. It has a great importance in relation with the industry's integration to the world dynamics, sharing and getting technological and scientific information.In the meantime as being a founder member of IPC (International Poultry Council), BESD-BIR presents the Turkish broiler industry within the international platform.BESD-BIR is a member of Agriculture Council in Turkey. BESD-BIR presents opinion related with the law, bylaw and regulations legislated by governmental bodies that concern the sector and plays a critical role by its contributions related with the legislation of applicable regulations.
