Hospital/Clinic - Upper Montclair, NJ, US
Having trained in social work and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, I have specialized for over 15 years in working with individuals and families living with chronic and serious illness. After practicing in oncology social work, I created the social work department for the International Multiple Sclerosis Management Practice (IMSMP) in New York City. As the Director of Social Work at the IMSMP for 13 years, I counseled people living with MS, treated them in individual psychotherapy and support groups, and worked with their families, caregivers, and health care providers. This rich experience has given me a deep and nuanced understanding of what it means to live with illness.I have provided professional presentations, both locally and nationally, at patient and professional conferences in the multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, rehabilitation and psychotherapy fields on living and coping with chronic and severe illness. My postgraduate training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy adds an additional level of understanding of the psychological patterns that contribute to a person's ability to cope with and adapt to life's challenges, including, but not limited to, physical illness. While one of my specialties is living with illness, my practice is not limited to this and I also offer general psychotherapy.
