Located on the site of the former Betteshanger Colliery, the £40m Betteshanger Sustainable Parks project is East Kent's major new visitor, education and commercial destination – an economic and social regeneration project of national significance. Comprising of Betteshanger Park and Betteshanger Business, it will be the UK's first destination to celebrate the evolution of energy, from its heritage in coal mining through to the energy sources of the future, all within unrivalled, state of the art facilities.Betteshanger Park, set on the colliery spoil heap, provides an outstanding space for anyone wishing to access and explore the outdoors. Enjoy miles of traffic free cycling; explore muddy mountain bike trails; swing and climb in the play park; take aim on the archery range; build dens in the woods; dig for fossils in the coal spoil; work up a sweat on the military fitness course or be a treasure hunter on the geocaching routes. The Centre, due to open 30th March 2019, will house a new café, cycle centre and conference facilities. Celebrating the social history and impact of coal mining in East Kent, the Kent Mining Museum will be the central focus for the new building. A Green Energy Centre will tell the story of energy of the future, using solar power and a biomass boiler to generate clean power for the Park. Betteshanger Business will be developed from 2018.
