After working for UTZ Certified for three years, I was intrigued to know what needs to happen in the producing countries to step up sustainable production. I also wanted to gain more insights into the local challenges and bottlenecks that existed to make structural improvements a reality. I decided to just dive in, saying goodbye to my job and start working on commodity value chain projects as an independent consultant. My first project was a pro-bono project working with a social entrepreneur in the coffee sector in Rwanda. PROJECTSOxfam Novib: co-organised workshop "Private Sector Engagement" for French speaking African affiliates and their partners. (Morocco)Natural Habitats Group: developed Palm Done Right Manifesto & Principles; external stakeholder engagement palm oil sector. (NL; Ecuador)Adam Smith International: conducted perception analysis of East-Congolese coffee sector with international traders & roasters, and delivered marketing action plan for the promotion of Congolese coffee. (Global; DRC)Oxfam Novib: program development and private sector engagement for FAIR Company-Community Partnerships in the palm oil value chain. (Global; DRC)Fair Match Support: led cocoa and nuts supply chain sustainability certification projects. (Sierra Leone; Central Asia)UTZ Certified: developed awareness raising plan to facilitate uptake of UTZ program in India; reviewed repositioning with stakeholders, incl. action plan. (NL; India)MVO Nederland: developed a communication strategy for the international CSR-program. (NL)Lifemate Coffee: advised on sales strategy; established direct trade contacts with European traders & roasters. (Rwanda)
