BBBS provides the children of DeKalb County an opportunity to experience a one-to-one quality friendship with a caring, encouraging and mature volunteer from the local community. With professional guidance, the volunteer ‘Big' (adult) and the ‘Little' (child) share special times and grow together while focusing on enhancing the Little's sense of self-worth. As a result the children have shown improvements in many areas including self-esteem, self- expression, participation in school, and in the pride they have with their daily accomplishments. The Big benefits as well by having an opportunity to watch the Little grow and by having a close as well as, meaningful, relationship with a child. BBBS programs are offered at no cost to the families of the children or to the volunteers.
