Big Mouth Society is dedicated to the presentation, preservation, and education of historically-informed and community-minded musical and performance arts in Portland, Oregon. Big Mouth Society hosts a professional-level mainstage series, presenting three to four innovative and diverse programs with distinguished musicians and other performance artists nationally and locally. In addition to the mainstage series, we hosts multiple salons (Big Mouth Salons) where artists of all levels of abilities can practice and exchange ideas and make new connections. An event of note is the Rainbow Soiree, our annual giant big arts celebration. There are several chamber ensembles, classes, workshops, and individual learning opportunities for musicians and performing artists of all levels. Members of the society takes on all kinds of volunteer leadership and hosting roles that deepen their understanding and commitment to the arts.While we care deeply about programming, Big Mouth is first and foremost a value-driven community. We pledge to being one of the few organizations that offer equitable treatment of professional artists, and are dedicated to the process that support and encourage their growth and development. We offer a generous performance fellowship each year to an outstanding young musician ready to further develop their skills.We have made partnerships with various charitable and educational organizations in the Portland, OR and will dedicate our efforts in connecting and including different population in our community, including people of color, LGBTQ, inner-city youth, immigrants, refugees, and other vulnerable populations.While broad in scope and open in ideas, the Big Mouth Society focuses heavily in historical and political arts, and most of our projects emphasizes community engagement, civic discourse, holistic self-discovery, and artistic skill-building. The society is a place where you can experience beauty, deepen your connection to the world, expand your creativity, and build lifelong friendships.
