Binary Spark Studios is currently developing Nearest Future, a point-and-click adventure game heavily focused on storytelling and the presentation of world-class art. Initially designed for mobile devices, it will also be ported over to PC and made available through Steam. Set on Earth not far from the present, the story follows a young woman named Alice as she encounters a series of mysterious events that lead her to believe that not everything is what it seems to be in the world around her. Recruited by the global disease control organization, she is sent all around the globe in her search for answers, though every mystery she solves seems to unlock two more. The game relies on the tried and true setup of side-scrolling scenes with a simple, intuitive interface that stays out of the player's way as he or she explores each chapter. Conversations unfold organically, giving players the opportunity to make a real impact on the world around them, including alterations to future encounters, based on the decisions they make. What sets Nearest Future above other games in the genre is our adherence to these core features: • No death or dead ends, only opportunities and decisions • Focus on exploration, mystery, and conversation instead of twitchy action • No inventory management, just a simple one-at-a-time objecting holding system • Simple, fun puzzles instead of frustrating mindbenders Taking place over five chapters, each broken down into three acts, Nearest Future has an episodic arrangement that takes players to different parts of the world in each one, telling an encapsulated part of the story that stands on its own but connects to the wider mystery. Styled after the classic adventure games of the 80s and 90s, Nearest Future aims to modernize the experience for younger audiences while simultaneously staying familiar enough to attract the older players who are currently enjoying the resurgence of their favorite genre of video games.
