Bioinformatics is the frontier of biological, biomedical and environmental research. It enables free, worldwide access to the datasets and tools which reveal fundamental biology. However, access to research projects is currently largely limited to those in academia. Our goal is to build an open community that offers bioinformatics training, mentorship, and the opportunity to collaborate on exciting research projects.Established labs host projects for open collaboration. These projects are serious research endeavors that are intended for eventual publication in reputable journals. To join a project team, a volunteer needs to complete "training requirements" relevant to the project. Then, experienced team members will decide whether the volunteer is suitable to join. Like any group project, team members are expected to participate equally, help each other, and communicate openly. Once the project is complete, it is expected that all volunteers who contributed will be authors on the resulting paper. To see a list of current and past projects, check out our website!
