Bioversity is a London-based social enterprise aimed at promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in the biotechnology sector. We organise events at different locations around the world to establish a diverse and vibrant network of entrepreneurs, doctors, designers and engineers, and support them from ideation through prototyping.Our Unique Selling PointThere are considerable barriers to innovating in the biotechnology sector: niche expertise, expensive equipment and safe lab space for the development of an idea. We aim to lower these barriers by offering support in the form of space, expert guidance (via our extensive network of mentors) and exposure to early-stage investors.Milestones* Our first three-day hackathon was held at Imperial College London in July 2015 with over 40 participants from different universities in London (Imperial College London, University College London, Royal College of Art and King's College London). Eight teams were incubated, of which two have continued on to develop their idea/prototype and attracted the interest of early-stage investors.* Our first "idea hack" was co-organised with EyeFocus Accelerator, Entrepreneur Hub (Imperial College Business School) and Aboundary (Royal College of Art) at Imperial College Business School in February 2016. Over 30 participants showed up and six teams were incubated.* Our second "idea hack" was co-organised with UCL Entrepreneurs and UCL Life Sciences Society at UCL University Campus in March 2016. Over 30 participants showed up and four teams were incubated.
