Founded in 1947 by the Junior League of Birmingham, Birmingham Children's Theatre (BCT) is of the nation's oldest and largest professional theater companies for young audiences. BCT is the largest employer of professional theater artists in North Alabama, and is Alabama's only professional touring theater company. As the resident professional theater of the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC), BCT operates the 150-seat Dominick Studio Theatre, the intimate 250-seat Wee Folks Theatre for students ages 3-6 and the larger 950-seat Mainstage Theatre for students ages 6-up. Performing to over 12 million children in its six decade history, BCT serves a combined audience of over 175,000 young people each season through an 11-production season at the BJCC. Four productions tour to over 40 Alabama counties and 17 states annually.
