Photography - Port Washington, Wisconsin, United States
BlockPhotos celebrates a lifetime of photography by Phillip L. Block, an accomplished outdoor photographer and writer. To view my photographic portfolios and blog, please visit my flagship web site, http://www.blockphotos.com. I am perhaps best known for Lights of the Lakes, an hour-long original narrated slide show. It consists of over 200 photographs, including attractive portraits of 50 different Great Lakes lighthouses. Other images include shipwrecks and historical subjects depicting iron and copper mining and lumbering activities in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The importance of these industries during this period necessitated the construction of many of the lights seen in the show, to help facilitate water transport of mineral and timber products to market. For detailed information on this program, visit my Lights of the Lakes page at http://www.philblock.info/lol.html. To view photos of the more than 250 Great Lakes light stations I've been to, please visit my lighthouse site, Lightstations.com, at http://www.lightstations.com. This site also contains my lighthouse blog. Phil also serves as a volunteer docent and tour guide at the Port Washington 1860 Light Station Museum. Our building, which is on both the National and Wisconsin Registers of Hisoric Places, has been described by many as one of the best lighthouse restorations on the Great Lakes.
