Blood Bike East launched in April 2013 and to date have successfully completed over 2500 calls. Recently we moved our first organ transport. We work with all the major hospitals and groups in the country. The Health Service Executive has very limited resources. One area that is very costly to the HSE is courier and taxi services. Most hospitals rely on taxi & courier services to ferry diagnostic specimens, blood, patient notes, x-rays, scans and other medical equipment between hospitals in the Dublin area. We offer our service free of charge to HSE hospitals in the Dublin area; we will shortly expand to cover the Leinster area. Blood Bike East is a volunteer group dedicated to helping people who are in receipt of care provided by the HSE. All of our members are volunteers and receive no financial recompense for their time or out of pocket expenses. We currently operate 5 bikes and have over 50 volunteers
