The Bloomington Community Band is an all-adult volunteer concert band with membership ranging from 50 to 60 in number, and 18 to 85 years in age. A community band has existed in Bloomington, Indiana since 1838, although not continuously. The current BCB formally began in 1978 with sponsorship from the Bloomington JayCees and a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission. More the band's history can be found at http://bloomingtoncommunityband.net/?page_id=18.We accept anyone who plays a wind, brass or percussion instrument, regardless of their experience or level of training. There are no auditions: just show up at rehearsals and we will make a spot for you. More info at www.bloomingtoncommunityband.org.The band plays an average of 20 concerts per year at arts and civic events throughout Monroe County and beyond. A typical concert will consist of marches, popular tunes, concert band and light classical pieces. Each year the BCB kicks off Bloomington's Fourth of July parade. We are an expected event at the Fourth Street Arts Festival and Arts Fair on the Square. Also traditional are holiday concerts at College Mall and in several of the local retirement communities. We also take the show on the road to Gosport, Elletsville, Spencer, Nashville, Linton, Mitchell, Orleans, French Lick, and several other towns, as well as to Brown County, Spring Mill, and McCormick's Creek State Parks.
