The BLUElab India Project (BLIP) is a multidisciplinary student organization at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor dedicated to co-designing sustainable and culturally-appropriate technology with small agricultural communities near Kalol in Gujarat, India. Our largest project is our low-smoke cook stove. This stove redirects pollution away from users and costs less than $5 to build. There are now over 1000 stoves being used in 14 different communities. Outside of the stoves project, we are currently exploring projects to improve access to drinking water. While BLUElab India Project is an organization affiliated with the College of Engineering, members are also drawn from multiple schools including the College of Literature, Science and the Arts, the Ross School of Business, and the School of Art and Design. BLUElab India is part of the umbrella organization, BLUElab, which has project teams working all over the world that are dedicated to co-designing sustainable solutions.
