Blueprints for Healthy Youth Development reviews, rates, and aggregates the evidence base of preventive interventions. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive registry of scientifically proven and scalable interventions that prevent or reduce the likelihood of antisocial behavior and promote a healthy course of youth development and adult maturity. We also produce publications on the importance of adopting high-scientific standards when evaluating what works in social and crime prevention interventions. Originally introduced as Blueprints for Violence Prevention when it first launched in 1996, Blueprints was one of the earliest efforts to establish a clear scientific standard for evaluating the evidence of an intervention's effectiveness, implementing a rigorous expert review process, and certifying interventions that met this standard. Blueprints serves as a resource for governmental agencies, foundations, community organizations and practitioners seeking to make informed decisions about their investments in preventive interventions. Blueprints rates effective interventions as either Promising, Model, or Model Plus. Promising interventions meet our minimum standard – 1 high-quality randomized control trial (RCT) or 2 high-quality quasi-experimental design (QED) studies showing positive posttest effects. Model interventions meet a higher standard (2 high-quality RCTs or 1 high-quality RCT + 1 high-quality QED & a sustained effect for a minimum of one year after the intervention ends) and provide greater confidence in the intervention's capacity to change behavior and developmental outcomes. Model interventions that have achieved an independent replication are listed as Model Plus. Model and Model Plus interventions have demonstrated efficacy for changing targeted behavior and developmental outcomes over a sustained period and thus are recommended for large-scale implementation (e.g., state‐ or national‐level initiatives and system adoption).
