Retail - Albion, Queensland, AU
The Book Warehouse began in 1991 as a retail bookshop selling publishers end of line and overstocked titles - referred to as 'remainders' in the trade. We were operating 'pop up' shops twenty years before they became trendy! Using this model store numbers would fluctuate depending on availability of empty shops in shopping centres. We ran our first book fair at Chappel Hill State School around 1997. Word of mouth was and still is the best form of advertising and so over the next few years the business grew as more schools heard about us. More than 150 schools and kindergartens now engage with us to run book fairs, and the numbers are growing each year. We have been in the current warehouse in Albion for over 15 years. It's an old 'banger' of a shed but it's in a great central inner city location. It is full of great titles at great prices. We still source the titles from local publishers but now also travel extensively overseas to help keep up with the demand. 25 Anstey Street, Albion
