We were the ones frantically drawing energy from the people around us because we would have fallen asleep otherwise. Sometimes, we still did. Parent/teacher conferences were hard. Eventually, we grew up and became adults who play real drums and talk to strangers on airplanes and still get the same visceral life-force from the folks around us that most aged redwoods get from a few centuries' worth of direct sunlight.
