Mission Statement The Boston Doula Project provides free, compassionate and empowering support to people experiencing abortion. We promote the doula model of physical, emotional, spiritual and informational support for people throughout the full spectrum of reproductive experiences. Values, Communities, and Traditions Informing Our Work: We do this work because we believe everyone should have access to all the resources they need to choose whether, when and how to be sexual, to reproduce and to parent. Working with a reproductive justice framework and an understanding of the politics of reproduction, we recognize that people's reproductive experiences and access to abortion vary widely, based on their relationship to race, gender, class and other structures of power that shape our world. We strive to prioritize the voices and needs of marginalized individuals and communities, including, but not limited to, people of color, queer, trans* and gender nonconforming people, people with disabilities and young people. We are inspired and motivated by the work of other full-spectrum doula groups. We understand reproductive life to encompass a full spectrum of experiences, including non-reproductive sex, miscarriage, abortion, birth adoption and the postpartum period. We believe every person deserves nonjudgmental, compassionate support throughout their reproductive experiences and to be empowered to be their own best advocate. How We Fulfill Our Mission: The volunteers of the Boston Doula Project: * provide free doula support services for abortion; * facilitate connections with doulas to provide support for other reproductive experiences; * host community events that support destigmatization of reproductive experiences and a better understanding of reproductive health, rights, and justice; * educate future full-spectrum doulas; * and nurture relationships with allied organizations.
