Fishery - Boston, Massachusetts, United States
Celebrating 100 Years of the Boston Fish Pier! The Boston Fisheries Foundation was created by some Boston fish guys with the simple goal of celebrating seafood. This party became the first-ever Boston Seafood Festival and Seafood Gala, taking place in October of 2012 at the Bank of America Pavilion. Both events were a tremendous success, and were repeated in 2013 on an even grander scale. After two successful festivals, the concept behind the BFF evolved as members wanted to do more to share their passion for healthy, delicious seafood with the world. The fish guys put their heads together and filed for 501(c)3 non-profit status in 2013. The BFF's mission now includes initiatives to educate the public about the benefits of sustainably harvested seafood in order to support and expand the fisheries; and to preserve the role of fishermen and fishing communities as a vibrant part of New England's heritage. Perhaps the most ambitious goal of the BFF is to start The Boston Fisheries Museum, an endeavor spearheaded by BFF members to preserve maritime artifacts and history for future generations to enjoy. Additionally, members are developing materials to educate the public about issues facing the industry, and to introduce many of the delicious, lesser-known seafood varieties and encourage their preparation at home.
