We are youth and adults working together to ensure that the city of Augusta nurtures all of its children. We support the ideal that each child should have the following basics in their lives:* A caring adult or mentor* Safe places in which to live, play, and grow* An appropriate and marketable education* Opportunities to be part of the communityGuiding principles.* Youth are a community resource and have strengths to be developed* Change occurs when youth are actively involved in their development* Youth-to-youth contacts and referrals are often more effective than adult interventions* Education training and one-on-one coaching is important* All effective changes come from local ownership of issues* Activities must be culturally sensitive* Activities of Capital Kids/Augusta Communities for Children will be based on appropriate scientific research principles of youth development
