Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to become productive, responsible and caring citizens. Our core values are that our Boys & Girls Clubs provide:A safe place to learn and grow;Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals;Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences; and,Hope and opportunity. We were founded in 1973 as the "Somerville Boys Club" by a group of residents worried about local boys getting in trouble with the law. Our first Clubhouse was opened in Somerville for 20 boys. In 1982, we officially began serving girls and reopened as the Somerville Boys & Girls Club. In the 1990s, we opened a Clubhouse in Medford. In the years following, we changed locations, expanded to neighboring communities, and went by different names. For the past 15 years, we were the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middlesex County. In 2015, we made big changes in our organization to re-focus on serving Medford and Somerville. Now, in 2016, we have returned to a name that demonstrates our long-term commitment to the youth in these communities – we are now the Boys & Girls Clubs of Medford and Somerville!
