One of the few institutions in the world (less than ten) that teaches FIG / IHO / ICA masters courses at the "Category "A" Competency Standard for Hydrographic Surveyors. It is the highest category achievable in the world.The current Diretoria de Hidrografia e Navegação (DHN) was created by Imperial Decree No. 6113 of February 2, 1876, under the heading of Maritime Charter Bureau. In 1914 she had her duties expanded and, as a result, moved to Ilha Fiscal when she left the mansion of Rua Dom Manuel No. 5, which had housed it for several decades. In 1923, the name of the office is changed to the Navy's Directorate of Navigation and in 1946 to the current name. In 1983 he came to his current facilities at Ponta da Armação.
