Artist's Statement:"My work is about simplicity and clarity. It's about experiencing the simple joys of life, joys that can belong to us no matter what: a breeze, a shadow, the way light shimmers on a leaf. To me, these are moments of clean and clear ecstasy. Like breathing, those pieces of life are crucial to my existence, part of my healing, and necessary for my hope and faith. It's my desire to share this with others.I use a variety of medium such as cork, shell, and metallic plaster, metal leaf, and acrylic. Although I usually work on stretched canvas, I view my art as more of a 3-dimensional object, always wrapping the medium around the cradle of the canvas. This viewpoint is reflected in the names I give them, such as Jewel Box and Copper Wall Fountain. The focal point is often an element of nature-a ginkgo leaf or cherry blossom branch painted with clean lines and minimal detail. This allows the eye to move effortlessly from the shapes to the abstract background of texture and color. My goal is to bring together color, texture, and organic form to resonate the healing qualities and beauty of simplicity."
