Farming - Darien, Georgia, United States
For brothers Travis and David Harris, what started as a desire to work together and a passion for fresh food manifested as Brothers in Farms LLC. Growing in a 40 foot iOT connected shipping container manufactured by Boston based Freight Farms, Brothers in Farms is a small, family-run, hydroponic farm producing incredibly fresh, locally grown vegetables of impeccable quality for the people of coastal Georgia. The farm is completely climate controlled allowing them to grow almost any crop regardless of season or weather conditions. As the Director of Client Services for Freight Farms during the day, David brings his knowledge of the inner workings of the farm and business acumen to the table while Travis provides a wealth of plant knowledge and farming techniques derived from his many years of experience as a professional farmer. They grow a diverse array of crops from seasonal greens such as lettuce, kale and basil to specialty crops including red-veined sorrel and wasabi arugula. Their products can be found on the menus at a number of excellent restaurants in Savannah and on St. Simon's island as well as the plates of hundreds of local customers who find Travis and David at farmer's markets in the greater Savannah area.
