Wine & Spirits - Cornuda, Veneto, Italy
The Brotto Distillery's history goes back to 1898 in the little town of Cittadella located some thirty kilometres from Padua. It relocated to Cornuda (near Treviso) "just a stone's throw from the station" in 1921. It specialises in its infusions and alcoholic macerations of herbs, roots and berries. In addition to its Curaçao, the Brotto Distillery produces a range of grappas and liqueurs. By 1908 it had ventured into the world of spirit, grappa and brandy making, and the wines of the hills of Valdobbiadene and Asolo. It was in the late 40's that the Brotto Distillery developed modern distillation processes for its grappa when it relocated to the "Vecchia Filanda" (the Old Spinning Mill), having accumulated a wealth of invaluable experience in refining its distillation techniques to produce a milder Grappa made with fresh and lightly pressed pomace. It is still today a family run business intent on upholding family traditions. The Brotto family personally prides itself in the quality and integrity of its product range now produced in the new distillery where the company moved to in 2004. It is today regarded by professionals working in the field as one Italy's premiere distilleries.
