Brown Folks Fishing was launched in February 2018 as a social media initiative on Instagram that uses storytelling to cultivate the visibility, representation, and inclusion of people of color in the fishing community and industry. It is both a space for anglers of color to build community and a movement to expand access to advocate for the conservation of fisheries and public waterways.Brown Folks Fishing is led by a team of anglers of color whose professional backgrounds include: strategic marketing, PR and communications, photography, documentary, outdoors retail industry, wilderness guides, education, culinary arts, conservation, visual and digital art, and conservation. The organization provides marketing and consulting services to the recreational fishing industry at the intersection of fishing, conservation, and DEI.
