Renewables & Environment - Accra, Greater Accra Region, Ghana
Bui Power Authority was established by an Act of Parliament, BPA Act 740, 2007 with a mandate to plan, execute and manage the Bui Hydroelectric Project, now the Bui Generating Station (BGS). The BGS is a peaking plant with a capacity to generate 404MW of hydro-generated power, which is evacuated from our 161kV Switchyard. We are set to add 250MWp of solar energy to Ghana's national grid. In this regard our Switchyard has been expanded to evacuate 250MWp of Solar-generated power. Our initial 50MW Solar Project which commenced in April 2019 is expected to be operational in 2020.BPA has completed the construction of the Tsatsadu Micro Hydropower Plant, the first in Ghana, which has the capacity to generate 45kW of power with the possibility of adding another 45kW capacity turbine. Tsatsadu Falls, on which this plant is constructed, is located at Alavanyo-Abehenease in the Hohoe District of the Volta Region.BPA is mindful of giving back particularly to its neighbouring communities and to society at large and to this extent has in place a Corporate Social Responsibility Policy to govern its commitments. Each year funds are set aside out of our profit to cater for activities which include, but not limited to, education; health and medical; social and cultural support; and sports. The Project Affected Persons (PAPs) continue to benefit substantially.
