"The purpose of the association is to research and exchange information about business espionage controls and countermeasures, to establish and encourage a code of ethics within the profession, and to promote a professional image within the business community through a Certified Confidentiality Officer (CCO) Program.(Articles of Incorporation, Article III) June, 1990As one of BECCA's early undertakings, Dr. William M. Johnson, Executive Director of BECCA, took part in a research project to "adopt a strategy to establish job-related (and industry-specific) skill standards, built around core proficiencies , and to develop skill certificates to accompany these standards." The research project was cosponsored by the U.S. Departments of Labor and Education (Federal Register/Vol.57/March 18, 1990), and developed BECCA's certified Confidentiality officer (CCO) program which was cited at the National Educational Leadership Conference in 1992.
