Cabaldana Alchemy was founded by both Miguel Angel Caballero and Luis Aldana with a clear and specific intention: to write and produce films that examine and celebrate the Latinx and LGBTQI experiences. Cabaldana Alchemy's first short film Broken Sunflower Hearts had its world premiered at Outfest in 2018. The film has also screened at over a dozen festivals including, HBO NY Latino Film Festival, Sedona International Film Festival, TWIST: Seattle Queer Film Festival, and the San Diego Latino Film Festival. It has won 4 awards including "Best Short" and "Best Actor" and has been nominated for 3 additional awards including "Best Screenplay". Currently, the company is in post-production for its second film, Acuitzeramo, about an elderly gay man, living in a homophobic small town, who loses his partner of 15 years. Having worked together since their college years at UCLA, Luis Aldana Miguel Angel Caballero has shared a passion for storytelling and film for almost 20 years. They have collectively collaborated on numerous shorts prior to Cabaldana Alchemy, including The Invitation, which aired on the Showtime Network, and Melancholia, a theater piece they co-wrote that premiered in Los Angeles and showcased at the Edinburgh Festival where it was nominated for an Amnesty International Award. Cry Now, a feature film they collaborated on had a successful festival run and was released in limited theaters in 2017.
