Information Technology & Services - New York, New York, United States
CabCorner.com is a web-based, mobile-accessible, social transportation logistics utility. Founded in 2008 by two Wesleyan University alumni, CabCorner is now a worldwide operation pursuing a crucial four-fold mission: * Reduce travel costs * Reduce street traffic * Reduce subway congestion * Reduce urban pollutionHistoryIn the summer of 2008, Jonathan McKinney approached Jesse Sommer to develop a revolutionary idea: "cab sharing." By connecting individuals located in the same general area and headed in the same direction, they sought to utilize taxicabs' "unused backseat real estate" and make taxi transportation affordable to a wider segment of the population. They further believed "cab sharing" could drastically reduce the pollution associated with taxi travel. In the coming months, the dynamic team they assembled built a website that would serve as an environmental and financial solution. The CabCorner prototype launched in New York City in early 2009, a few months prior to the initiation of NYC's own street-based cab-sharing program. Extensive media praise fueled the startup company's ambitions, and development of its new global platform began in 2010. That April, the nascent cab sharing industry consolidated when Cabcorner, LLC acquired its primary competitor: CabEasy.com. The partnership thus positioned CabCorner as the web's leader in cab-sharing technologies and logistics.
