Civic & Social Organization - Santa Monica, California, United States
"The Coalition" - CCOSO – is a voluntary association of individuals and agencies throughout California who are directly involved in or interested in the management and treatment of sex offenders.CCOSO was begun as local grass roots groups in the early 1980's in the Bay Area, Central Valley, San Diego and Los Angeles. These groups formed the California Coalition on Sexual Offending in 1986. Presently the California Coalition on Sexual Offending has eleven Regional Chapters: Bay Area, Central Valley, Los Angeles, Northern California, Central Coast, San Diego, Orange County, North Coast, Inland Empire, Fresno and Ventura. Chapters generally meet once a month. The Chairperson from each Chapter along with other committee heads and state agency representatives make up the Board of Directors. One task of the Board is to bring focus and direction to the efforts of the Coalition to improve the quality of sex offender management and treatment in California. CCOSO has two representatives on the California Sex Offender Management Board. CCOSO is incorporated in California as a Non-profit Organization. The Board is active on a number of fronts to impact larger systems. One major project of the Coalition has been the Annual Research and Training Conference, held in May. Experts from California and from across the country present at this increasingly well-attended Conference
