Cameron Community Ministries is an Urban Outreach Center in Rochester, NY. Cameron seeks to meet the needs of a neighborhood where a significant number of families live in poverty. We have been in operation for over 30 years and are the second largest soup kitchen in the 11-County Region. Our mission is to provide hope to our community through emergency services, engagement, education and empowerment. We are a trusted partner to those living in poverty and have provided a structured, safe and nurturing environment to adults and children where they can build life skills through training, programs and positive relationships with volunteers and staff. Daily Hot Lunch – We provide a hot meal seven days/week and in 2014 served over 55,000 meals. We also provide work experience opportunities and on the job training for people on public assistance, who help prepare meals. Kids Café Dinner – Five days/week, we feed children from our after school and summer programs and from the neighborhood. Cameron served 2,047 families in our Clothing House last year which distributes gently used clothing & donated hygiene supplies. We also have house wares, sheets, towels, toys, books, and baby supplies. Cameron's After School program offers homework help, enrichment, computer access and instruction, and mentoring for 40 elementary school children five days/week at Cameron. We have a special focus on reading and math. Summer Safe Haven for kids includes 6 weeks for neighborhood children to enjoy a rich program of field trips, tutoring, reading, computers, arts and recreation. Cameron is making a difference every day for our community. Whether it's the over 55,000 meals we serve annually, the after school/summer safe have program for children in Kindergarten through 6th grades or our clothing house where we offer a wide range of items in a boutique environment – our hope is to break the cycle of generational poverty by helping people move from dependence to independence.
