Camp Kodiak is a unique, integrated, non-competitive summer camp for children & teens with & without Learning Disabilities, ADHD, and High-Functioning ASD (formerly known as Asperger's Syndrome). We provide a traditional summer camp experience for children with special needs, integrating the supports our campers need to be successful. We offer a 2:1 camper-to-staff ratio, an academic program, a social skills program, and over 50 different camp activities. Our mature, professional staff include many trained professionals from the fields of education, child care, social work, and recreation. The rest of our counsellors are college and university students, many of whom are pursuing studies in a related field. As well, we have a fully equipped health centre staff by a doctor, three nurses, and nursing students. Our campers range in age from 6 to 18, and we offer a leadership training program for our oldest campers (16-18). While over 60% of our campers are Canadian, we welcome campers from across the United States and around the world. All of our comfortable log cabins are equipped with electricity, a washroom with hot and cold running water and a shower, and a view of the lake.We also offer an adult program called Club Kodiak, situated at a different location, where adults with disabilities are able to enjoy a supported vacation experience while learning necessary social skills and life skills. Camp Kodiak started as the dream of Dave Stoch, a special education teacher, who observed and appreciated the value of successful camp experiences for children with learning disabilities and other learning differences. It has grown since its humble beginnings in 1991, and has since become a "home away from home" for hundreds of campers each summer. Dave passed away in 2016, and his daughters, Marni, Ilana, and Shari Stoch--all professional teachers--continue to fulfill his dream.
