Fund-raising - Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada
Canadian Progress Club Ignite ("Ignite") is part of the Canadian Progress Club (http://www.progressclub.ca) founded in Toronto in 1922 presently having over 500 members within 29 clubs (men and women). We are charitable-minded Canadians who are passionate and committed to strengthening our communities through hands-on service and fundraising, to benefit those in need. It is entirely Canadian having no international affiliations; each local club conducts its own affairs and its own charitable projects. All fundraising dollars stay within the community they are raised with a small percentage going to the Canadian Progress Charitable Foundation. This national foundation proudly supports Canadian Special Olympics and is their largest non-corporate sponsor. Ignite is the local Saint John women's club and is a volunteer not-for-profit service club chartered April 2012. Our mandate is to strive to assist women and children in need within our community and enhance their quality of life. We fundraise and do hands-on volunteering.Since charter we have proudly presented over $46,000 to local organizations. We started volunteering even before we officially chartered. Since charter, we have volunteered over 3000 hours. We have continued to have regular shifts at the Saint John Community Food Basket and also helping with special occasion food sorting. He continue to help with local Special Olympics events when our assistance is needed. Our proudest community service effort is the Purse Project which is held the first Saturday of November from a few locations throughout Saint John and the Kennebacasis Valley. We have just finished our fifth annual and we have had great community support with over 3600 purses collected. They have been donated to local organizations that are a direct resource for women facing unfortunate life circumstances from homelessness, poverty, victim of domestic violence or other emergency situations.
