Originally your tank may have been equipped with sacrificial magnesium anodes, but were likely never replaced. Replacing the anodes every 1 – 3 years will maximize the life of your tank. An internal inspection/service should be done on all hot water tanks at a minimum every three years in the GTA due to the water conditions in this region and the Pressure Vessel Act. An Internal Service would consist of our crew entering the tank and visually inspecting all inlets, outlets, plugs, the drain and man way collar; cleaning the tank of any loose debris; replacing all depleted anodes; and visually inspecting to determine the condition of the lining itself.
