Carden Memorial School is a private, non-denominational Christian school located in Salt Lake City, Utah, educating children in PreK-8th grade since 1969. The school's mission is to help children find joy by improving the mind, developing the heart, and serving others. Parents love our classical approach to literature, math, science and the arts taught through the Carden method and philosophy. We offer small group teaching in a nurturing environment and emphasize character development, patriotism, and service.The highly-successful Carden Method is a complete curriculum in which all subjects are interrelated and reinforced both within and among grade levels. Lessons are taught in a clear, sequential manner. This orderly, consistent approach facilitates learning and provides our students with a thorough academic foundation. The Carden Method teaches children how to think, rather than what to think. We encourage our students to think for themselves, to reach their own logical conclusions, and to express their ideas with clarity. Our unique phonetically-based reading program, developed by Mae Carden, helps students discover the joy of books early on. By reading aloud daily, children gain fluency and rhythm and become confident, capable readers. By learning from the best in classical literature, they learn important values and life-long lessons. In addition to our reading program and strong emphasis in math, our core curriculum also includes science, art, music, PE, conversational French in every grade, and Latin in the upper grades. Carden Memorial has a highly-trained staff. Our calm classrooms allow the teacher to work in small groups around a teaching table, giving individualized math and language arts lessons based on the needs of the student. We believe students learn best when they correct their own errors and work at their own level. Our goal is for each child to master every subject and become independent thinkers.
