Care for Kids North Devon provides instant financial assistance to families that have a child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness e.g. a cancer, a heart condition, cystic fibrosis or a head injury. The Trustees identified a need to provide financial support North Devon families who have a child with a life threatening illness/condition.Care for Kids provides a lump sum to help alleviate financial concerns for families in this situation, whilst they adjust to having a very sick child. Due to North Devon's rural location, all seriously ill children are now treated in specialist Children's Hospitals in Bristol or beyond. For families in North Devon this means the loss of earnings, subsidised costs and travel costs for parents traveling and staying in Bristol, Oxford, Birmingham or London. Since 2009 the charity has supported over 100 families with financial grants and raised over £200,000. Care for Kids works closely with North Devon District Hospital to provide enhancement of the facilities on the Children's Caroline Thorpe ward. Our most significant projects we have delivered are the refurbishments of the Playroom and the Parents Room. Care for Kids North Devon are a self funded registered charity (1136399), we are totally dependent on the support we received from our supporters donations and fundraising events that we organise. Our two key annual fundraising events are the Care for Kids Barnstaple 10K and our Mince Pie Mingle. These events along with the generosity from our supporters enable the charity to deliver the unique and instant support to North Devon families.
