The Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary NPC is located in the greaterBarberton Nature Reserve which incorporates Mountainlands GameReserve, which is situated in the beautiful heartland Mpumalanga,South Africa. The Sanctuary was founded by Petronel Nieuwoudt, withthe goal of providing care and rehabilitation to a wide range of animals.Due to the drastic increase in the number of rhino poaching incidentswithin South Africa, and an ensuing large number of orphan rhinos, theneed for a specialized sanctuary which would rehabilitate andeventually, release back into the wild became necessary.The sanctuary was developed in an area which has large numbers ofcommunities surrounding the reserve. These communities experiencehigh unemployment and own large tracts of un-utilized agriculturallands.CFWRS works directly with these local communities in creatingsustainable solutions that provide training, educational opportunitiesand ultimately jobs. This will lead to members of the communitydeveloping livelihoods and securing promising futures for theircommunities through conservation.The long-term sustainability of the CFWRS ultimately through thecreation of jobs and enterprises within the Sanctuary and surroundingcommunities which ensure that the communities see a tangible benefit inconserving the Sanctuary and rhinos.
