Founded in 2016, CARICO's first coffees originate in Uganda, the largest coffee exporter in Africa and one of the top ten global coffee producers and exporters. The French concept of 'Terroir' when related to wine means the 'specificity of place' and its influence on the character of a wine. The collective of natural geographical aspects including climate, location, aspect and soil plays a leading role in the distinctive provenance and personality of these wines distinguished by their unique origin. The high altitude, rich volcanic soils and orientation of the sun to the coffee trees in Bugisu mean the concept of terroir for wine is similar in the coffee industry. The high quality of the Bugisu arabica coffee has been well known for decades. In recent years increasing numbers of coffee buyers are appreciating that the soil, the elevation and the climate in Uganda create outstanding coffees. Our coffees are certified for export by the Uganda Coffee Development Authority and are inspected by SGS, the world's leading inspection, verification testing and certification company, regarded as the global benchmark for quality and integrity.
