Caritas Somalia is a Member Organization of Caritas Internationalis and forms part of the Caritas MONA network. It was established in 1980 as a response to the amount of refugees in need from the "Ogaden war" in Mogadishu. From then, it's been working all over Somalia directly or indirectly, mainly to respond to catastrophes such as drought, famine and armed conflict. Caritas Somalia's work focuses on the following areas:• Migrants and IDPs: Caritas Somalia works with Internally Displaced People in Somaliland and Baidoa, Southern-Somalia, providing education, nutrition and access to health.In Bossaso, Puntland, Caritas together with its partner Perigeo NGO, built a fishing school to benefit 8,000 families and contribute to the development of the fishing sector in Puntland. It is mainly done through fishing lessons and a centre for fish treatment processes.• Sustainable Projects focused on agriculture using permaculture techniques and fishing. • Emergency Response: We respond to emergencies from natural disasters or terrorist attacks. Mainly through our partners, sending medical kits or paying for medical treatments.• Education: Caritas Somalia provided support to some schools in Mogadishu. In the past, training courses in electricity, plumbing and carpentry have been set up for young people. Sewing classes are offered for young women.• Health: Caritas Somalia funded the reconstruction of a small hospital in Brava, and facilitated the distribution of food, medicines and sanitary equipment to needy people in Mogadishu.Caritas strives for a world where the voices of the poor are heard and acted upon, where each person is free to flourish and live in peace and dignity. We work with people of all faiths and with those who have none, in favour of minorities and people living in poverty.
