Carnegie Mellon Solar Racing is a student organization at CMU that looks to develop the world's future leaders in technology and engineering. We provide our members with this opportunity for personal growth by building a single product: a solar-powered racing boat. Students are responsible for the design and construction of almost everything on our boats. We design and manufacture our carbon fiber hulls. We design, build, and/or retrofit our electric propulsion systems. We even gather, process, and monitor data on our boat's performance. All of this, of course, runs on our custom solar panels and power systems, which help keep our boats competitive at national and international races.All this design, analysis, and fabrication gives our students unique experiences building and leading real engineering projects before they even leave Pittsburgh for the workforce.
