Carol is a contemporary textile artist who specialises in machine embroidery. She creates unique, one off pieces by stitching directly onto painter's canvas using a variety of rayon, cotton, woollen, and metallic threads. She stitches mainly on the reverse side of the fabric, with heavyweight threads in the spool, thus the top thread couches the heavy thread in long, free lines, as she draws with her machine. She then turns to the right side, redefining and adding finer details. She describes her current work as "walking through landscapes," a timeline of experiences from the South Downs where she lives, to the landscapes of Spain, Italy and France.Lavender fields, poppies, and the rolling downs all feature in her work with colour, light and texture playing an important part, and she only works from observation and her own drawings. Her works range from small intimate pieces to large -scale hangings, and she often works to commission, with hospitals and education authorities amongst her clients. She exhibits her work regularly in the UK and has exhibited and taught in the USA, New Zealand, France, Portugal, and Spain.Carol is a Fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, was chair from 2006-2010 and was co- curator of the annual winter exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London from 1999-2011. In 2012 she co- curated the exhibition Everyday Encounters at the newly refurbished William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow. She has strong interests and links with both Art in the Healthcare environment, and in Education. Her work is currently represented by Primavera Gallery in Cambridge
