Carroucell is an industrial company bringing a breakthrough in the field of "sol-gel process". This innovation allows the production of glass and ceramic objects and matrices with dimensions, forms and microstructures not achievable by existing technologies. The Carroucell sol-gel process has enabled us to develop bioactive glasses used for "3D" cell culture. More precisely, these glasses (materials) are developed and offered by Carroucell in the form of microcarriers intended for cell culture in bioreactors ("3D" type cell culture).Microcarriers are traditionally spherical small arrays 90 to 300 micrometers in diameter on which cells can bind and multiply. The culture mode using microcarriers is called "3D" and allows, contrary to "2D" culture mode, to grow a large amount of cells in a small volume.
