David Rogers and the Cascadian School of Log Building & Design offers classes in traditional log building techniques, with a focus on pre-1940 methods.Students leave our classes with a strong foundation upon which to further develop their log building skills. With the focus on working with hand tools, students quickly develop an appreciation for the healthy, honest hard work that is log building. An appreciation that will be reflected in their log structures for generations to come.Seasonal classes take place on the southern flank of Mt. Hood, at the home of the historic Summit Ranger Station. Field School Sessions take place at various historic log cabin sites across the Pacific Northwest. With emphasis on the introduction to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for the Preservation of Historic Properties, the program begins with a condition assessment to develop a treatment strategy of how to properly plan for the tasks needing to be accomplished. Identifying and retaining as much of the original work as possible, participants stabilize, repair, and restore the logwork with the tools of the period, preserving the integrity of the historic property. In addition to these courses, The Cascadian School of Log Building & Design offers consulting, on-site supervision and training opportunities involving traditional log building projects.
