The Bulgarian gambling business is one of the few prosperous industries in the country, as the official information states. According to the State Gambling Commission 2002 information, presently in our country legally function 573 gambling halls, 51 bingo halls, 19 casinos and 3 companies for sport betting, as well as 453 halls with slot machines. About 7000 people are occupied in the gambling business. The licensed gaming organizers of the so called games of the "Happiness" and of the betting pay between 40 and 50 million BGN for taxes and about 2 million BGN for duties per year. The State Gambling Commission made 670 checks in 2002, after which 153 statements were made for illegal gambling activities and over 750 gambling devices were taken from organizers.
