Casone Ugolino is an old farm dating back to 1500 belonged to the noble family Della Gherardesca. It was used tobacco cultivations. In 1823 it was renovated on the occasion of Ugolino della Gherardesca birth (first-born of the prestigious Guido Alberto Della Gherardesca) and was assigned to the reception of pilgrims who came to Castagneto Carducci. His position was a perfect refreshment point at the beginning of the climb to the old town Castagneto Carducci. For this reason Casone Ugolino was named "Porto di Terra". Its recent renovation took more than ten years: now is a perfect reconstruction of the structure of the time, all building with tradition Tuscany materials. The Casone Ugolino consists of four structures linked together to form a real big "farm". There are 17 apartments, territorial restaurants Mercato, wine-tasting traditional Enoteca, Organic Pizzeria, Wine Museum, Congress Centre and more. The area is surrounded by over 6000 hectares of typical Tuscany forest, part of the estate of the noble family Della Gherardesca. Within walking distance there are 20km af pine forests and natural beaches.
